Skilled Regional Visa (Subclass 491)
This visa subclass is for people looking to live and work in a designated area of regional Australia for a temporary period. They are nominated by a specific state or territory for application. The subclass 491 visa is split into two streams.
- Stream 1 – Main applicant, the nominated worker.
- Stream 2 – Members of the applicant’s family unit.

Individuals or families looking to live in regional Australia for skilled work temporarily, or with a path to permanent residency.
What this Visa lets you do?

5 years temporary residency in Australia, with permanent residency applications available from the 3-year mark.

Live, work and study in the designated region during the stay. This applies to members of the family unit as well as the designated worker. Members of the family unit can also live, work and study within Australia.

Unlimited travel to and from Australia during the duration of the visa.
Visa Requirements

Register interest with a EOI (expression of interest) in SkillSelect.

This is a points-tested visa, the main applicant must score 65 points or more on SkillSelect.

You must be nominated or invited for this visa by an Australian state/ territory. This will occur after registering an EOI.

Sponsorship can also occur via an eligible family relative living within Australia (usually the designated region).

Main applicant must have competent English.
