Employer Sponsored Visa (Subclass 186)
This employer sponsored visa allows Australian employers to nominate skilled international workers to work for their Australian business, when they can’t find an appropriate skilled worker in Australia. The visa holder can work in Australia in their nominated occupation and have Permanent Residency.

Direct Entry Stream

Direct Entry Stream

Must have 3 years relevant work experience.

Must have a skills assessment (exemptions apply).

Must be within an eligible occupation for nomination and be licensed and registered in the work body if it is mandatory for the profession.

Must be nominated by an Australian employer.

Must be under the age of 45 (exemptions apply).
Labour Agreement Stream

Must be working or intend to work for an employer with a labour agreement.

English language skills may be required within the labour agreement guidelines.

Temporary Residence Transition Stream

Have relevant work experience, (3 years full time 457, 482 visa subclass work).

Nomination by the employer that was the sponsor of the original temporary work visa.

This depends on the size of your employer’s business:
- A small business (annual turnover <10 million AUD) will cost: $3000 AUD
- A larger business (annual turnover >10 million AUD) will cost: $5000 AUD
You will need to be under 45 years old.
Applicants must first be nominated for the Direct Entry Stream visa. After the nomination has been approved you can begin the application.
3 years. However, you may be able to get an exemption.
You will need to show competent English for the transition stream and Direct Entry Stream:
- IELTS: 6 in each of the 4 components
- PTE: 50 in each of the 4 components
- OET: B for each of the 4 components
- TOEFL: 12 for listening; 13 for reading; 21 for writing and 18 for speaking
Also, note that from 16 November 2019 there is no exemptions to the English language requirement for the transition stream.
